Escape to the country, relax and unwind, wine and dine in our award winning Community pub and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep in one of our luxury en-suite shepherd’s huts. The Red Lion is situated in the beautiful village of Northmoor nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside with Witney, Oxford and Burford all in close proximity. Built of the highest standard, the huts have wood burners and sufficient heating to provide a cosy, quiet get away all year round. During your stay you will never be short of things to do, Northmoor and the surrounding areas are a nature lovers dream boasting superb walking (we are dog friendly) and cycling along the Thames Path as well as birdwatching in The Windrush Valley Nature Reserve with bird hide keys available to purchase from The Red Lion. Local attractions include Blenheim Palace, Buscot Park and The Cotswold Wildlife Park among many others.
Set amid picturesque Oxfordshire countryside the Shepherd’s Huts at the Red Lion at Northmoor are an idyllic base from which to explore the Cotswolds or the historic city of Oxford this summer.
Couples, families and dog-owners are all welcome at our brand-new Shepherd’s Huts: three gorgeous stand-alone cabins fitted out with contemporary furnishings and all the amenities you need for the perfect country escape.
Our trio of wagon-style huts – The Den, The Nest and The Burrow – include comfortable king-sized beds with built-in storage, cosy seating for two and kitchenettes with sink, kettle and tea and coffee making facilities. Each hut is fully equipped with Wi-Fi and a smart TV, as well as an en suite bathroom with walk-in shower.
The huts each have their own wood burner and a basket of logs to keep things warm and toasty during the colder months. During long summer evenings, you can fire up the BBQ and prepare an open-air feast on your own private dining area or meet up with friends to enjoy sundowners in the pub garden.
We believe that every day in the countryside should start with a healthy breakfast, so a delicious continental spread with freshly brewed tea or coffee is included in the price and delivered to your hut each morning.
The menu at the Red Lion at Northmoor – our community-owned village pub – features classic British dishes made with seasonal and home grown produce from our kitchen garden or sourced from local farmers, and the bar is well-stocked with a selection of ales showcasing the best local breweries. Don’t miss our famous Sunday roast for a delicious end of week treat.
The Shepherd’s Huts at the Red Lion are a short drive from the museums, shops and restaurants of Oxford’s historic centre, as well as other local attractions including Blenheim Palace, Cotswold villages and dozens of stately homes and gardens. Set on the edge of the Oxfordshire section of the Cotswolds, the huts are also an ideal base for day hikes or bike rides through stunning countryside, or a leisurely paddle along the Thames – only a short distance away.
Each hut sleeps two guests, but groups of friends or family could reserve all three for a luxurious, socially distanced glamping experience. Pets are welcome for a small additional charge, meaning no one gets left behind on your summer staycation.
We are delighted to be taking bookings from July 4th and look forward to welcoming you back to our fabulous Shepherd’s Huts and village pub soon.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us.
NOTE: The pub is closed on Sunday nights and all day on Monday. Continental breakfast will still be delivered at the time of your choosing, but we will not be able to offer meals during these periods.
"Stayed here for the night, the welcome we had was excellent, friendly staff throughout, the hut was immaculate and cosy with everything you would need! We was undecided where to eat but ended up eating in the pub there and was a great decision, all the staff were beyond friendly and helpful and the food was out of this world. I would recommend anyone to stay here!"

"This place is amazing - food in the pub is amazing and the huts themselves exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was yummy and the huts were so cosy, even on a cold night. Dried wet walking gear. Top tip - don't put too much wood on the fire as it can get too warm !!"
